Mary Ottey stitched her delightful, small linen and woolwork sampler in 1822. The upper section of the linen is stitched with the following biblical quotation surrounded by a flower basket containing three bright red flowers to either side.
The earth is the Lord's compass and all that therein is
The compass of the world and they that dwell beneath
The remainder of the linen is stitched with a charming two story red brick house with a bird, perhaps a parrot, on a branch to either side of the roof and a tree next to both sides of the red brick structure. A shepherd and his dog are positioned on the bottom left and a shepherdess and lamb with a red bow on its tail are positioned on the lower right. There is a small undulating border running down both sides and across the top and bottom.
The chart includes instructions for the sampler, the small pin pillow, and the needle book.
Finished sampler measures 124W X 132H stitches.
Model stitched using DMC, one strand over two, on 40-count Eureka linen from Fox and Rabbit.
The original design contains no speciality stitches; however, the verse is stitched one over one.
**There is an optional verse included that does not contain any over one stitches.
