Sarah Pell’s needlework indicates she was seven years old when she stitched her sampler at Rainhill School. During the 1880s, Rainhill, a small village on the Liverpool and Manchester railway was nine miles east of Liverpool. It was known for the manufacturing of watch movements, watchmakers’ tools and brooches. It was also home to a brass foundry, a station on the railway, and other small businesses.
The use of the biblical verse, “Remember thy Creator in the Days of thy Youth,” comes from Ecclesiastes 12:1-7. It harkens to a reminder for children to not let the excitement of youth cause them to forget their Creator and to honor Him while young —- because as they age, life gets harder.
Young Sarah married Richard Taylerson in January 1892 in West Derby, Lancashire, England when she was 21 years of age. They had four children in 11 years.
Sarah would spend 41 years as a widow before passing away in 1959 at the age of 90. She is buried in Merseyside, England
